The Department of Commercial Design at Asia University hosted the "Electric Vehicle Industry SDGs Trend Lecture," inviting Professor Guo-Bin Zhang from the Department of Commercial Design at National Taichung University of Science and Technology to introduce the trends of Taiwan's electric vehicle (EV) industry. This movement drives the digital transformation of the automotive sector, representing a key component in global net-zero transition policies. Beyond providing users with cutting-edge experiences, it must also align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over 60 faculty members and students participated in the event.
"The electrification of transportation can establish a green and sustainability-oriented friendly environment!" Professor Zhang explained that electric vehicles hold decisive significance in global carbon reduction efforts. Most future EV users will belong to Generation Z, a young population deeply influenced by the internet age whose lives are inextricably linked to smartphones. Following them, "Generation Alpha" will connect profoundly with artificial intelligence, immediately bringing "automated design" to mind. An electric vehicle acts like a smartphone fitted with four wheels—essentially an intelligent, automated system and vector, serving as a smart transit device.

Professor Zhang pointed out that under high-end development, the automotive supply chain is restructuring, and the semiconductor industry is pivoting toward digital transformation. Current EV trends not only emphasize cloud-based control but also real-time transmission of each vehicle's operational status back to cloud data centers, serving as a baseline for future product optimization. He cited Foxconn Technology Group's "MIH Open EV Platform," founded in 2021, as an example, noting that establishing an EV industry alliance aims to unlock fresh collaborative dynamics within Taiwan's electric vehicle ecosystem.
Hsi-Wen Lung, Chair of AU's Department of Commercial Design, noted that user experience (UX) design is heavily valued within EV development strategies. From an ergonomic perspective, experience design must monitor how the human body processes information alongside corresponding reactive movements. This allows designers to further evaluate the user's energy expenditure and muscular fluctuations during operation, serving as a solid benchmark for setting EV technical specifications or craftsmanship parameters.
Ya-Juan You, a junior student in the Department of Commercial Design, shared that the lecture helped her realize the multifaceted nature of product design. The future focus of EVs lies in electrified and intelligent experience design. Cars are no longer just simple means of transit; through visual, tactile, safety, digital, and mobility designs, students can discover fields that capture their interest and fit their personal career growth.
